January brought the first trip to Salt Lake City for researh at the Family History Library once again, where Miracle Tuesday happened only once. There were other very successful days though. I found in the German church records several family books as well as many birth, death and marriage records for several clients. I found many bits and pieces on other lines. The next trip is planned for the end of March, first of April.
A sad trip was made to Oklahoma City, OK to bury a favorite
cousin. She was much loved and will be missed.
I returned to Salt Lake City the end of March, first of April
for more research and progress on many fronts. I went with a
long list of items to look up and digitize and worked
frantically the first few days to get them all done all the
while finding new things.
May took me to Maryland an Pennsylvania where I visited with my
sister and her family. I spent two days at the
National Archives in
Washington, D. C. pulling military and land records. A day was
spent in the Maryland
Archives in Annapolis. Another spent at the
Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania
and the Pennsylvania Historical
Society libraries in Philadelphia. I drove strait to a
cemetery that I didn't have a good location for and got pictures
of several tombstones. One was for a person that died in 1754! I
did land record research in Towanda, Bradford Co, PA on my Smith
line, which I still haven't gotten figured out, but copied 73
documents.
I visited Cornell University with my sister and her family. It
is a University that my niece is looking at attending when she
graduates from high school next year. It was a busy week and a
half.
June is saw me off to Chicago for the
National Genealogical
Society Conference. I drove with a friend and we did
research on some of her families (Jerseyville and Carrollton) on
the way up and after touring some
Frank Lloyd Wright homes
in Chicago, we headed out to visit one of my ancestor's
counties. That was in LaSalle, county seat of Ottawa. We visited
the cemetery where Renslear Smith and many of his children are
located. We got there around dust. It was a moving experience.
We then headed for Springfield, IL where the
state archives and library are located. I obtained death and
land records at the archives and obituaries at the
Abraham Lincoln library. On the way home we stopped at three
more courthouses Albion, IL and Arkadelphia, AR.
I came home to a busy speaking calendar, two outside of the
metroplex of Dallas. One was in Tyler and another in McKinney.
August saw me in Salt Lake City again where I fine tuned the
Ireland research preparatory work as well as a lot of US work
for .
Surprises always occur. A client and I went to County Meath,
Ireland to work on one of his family lines. We were successful
and found the records in the churchs to be in good shape and
most willing to let us look at them in the short time we were
there. One of the churches was in
Kilskyre.
November we took vacation and spent a week in Lampasas for
Thanks-giving with family and friends. We also visited the Llano
eagle next again.
